Anita began her medical journey in Gippsland before moving to Melbourne, where she attended Presbyterian Ladies’ College. She completed her medical degree (MBBS) at The University of Melbourne in 1999, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy in 2002 and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2006. Her research was conducted at the Joint Proteomics Laboratory of The Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research.
She became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2007. Her post-fellowship training included advanced surgical placements at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Hôpital La Timone in Marseille, France, and The Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College London, from 2008 to 2009.
Anita is a current Examiner for the Court of General Surgery for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and served as Deputy Chair of the Court in 2024–2025. She has also contributed to the field through roles on the Executive Committee of the Endocrine Section of RACS, the Scientific Advisory Committee for BreastScreen Victoria, and the Locoregional Committee for Breast Cancer Trials.
